The South of Market Project Area Committee is
entrusted with the responsibility of providing advice, recommendations, and
direction to the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency for the revitalization of
the South of Market Redevelopment Project Area.
The Project Area Committee's mission represents a
combination of policies and strategies, which promote the economic vitality of
the community, including the following elements:
- Economic & Employment
Development: Encourage job creation through a variety of light
industrial and neighborhood serving commercial and industrial facilities.
- Quality of Life:
Provide for a more livable community for existing and new residents
and businesses by ensuring a clean and safe environment. Provide for community
education, health services and amenities to make South of Market a pleasant
place to live, work and visit.
- Transportation &
Parking: Promote a balance between transit/traffic demands and
neighborhood needs and safety.
- Housing:
Encourage the development of all types of housing to serve households of all
income levels for rental and homeownership.
- Community Fabric:
Promote and maintain the mixed-use and cultural character of the South of
Market. Ensure that new developments are designed to compliment the urban
framework of the community and do not detract from the social make up of South
of Market.
