Bessie Carmichael School / Park Complex

The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), Recreation and Parks Department and Redevelopment Agency are working together to create a new 700 student elementary school and 3.5 acre park complex utilizing the existing school site and adjacent areas. The program is strongly endorsed by the South of Market community. The Recreation and Parks Department has acquired approximately two acres for the park. The School District has applied for state school construction funds to replace the existing elementary school with a new school. The initial phase of construction of the expanded park facility could begin in 2002.
