HEALTH, SAFETY & HUMAN SERVICES SUBCOMMITTEE MINUTES

2010    2009    2008    2007   2006

The Health, Safety & Human Services Committee was combined from the previous Human Services and Safety Committees in October 2006.  This committee advises the Redevelopment Agency on issues related to the human service needs and safety issues of the South of Market Project Area Committee. Current issues the committee has been involved in include the new Bessie Carmichael Elementary School, the Victoria Manalo Draves park, a new Health Center (Westbrook Plaza), pedestrian safety, and issues related to living on the Sixth Street corridor.

Bessie Carmichael School / Park Complex

The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), Recreation and Parks Department and Redevelopment Agency worked together to create a new 700 student elementary school and 3.5 acre park complex utilizing the existing school site and adjacent areas. The program was strongly endorsed by the South of Market community. The Recreation and Parks Department has acquired approximately two acres for the park. The new park and school have both been completed.
